The Oxford Alternotives are a mixed-voice pop a cappella group from Oxford University, England. They are the oldest a cappella group in Oxford. The group covers wide variety of songs - from the traditional pop and rock to more alternative selections. Particular soul, funk & dance favourites are often laced with a comedic feel.
The Alternotives perform at a variety of events in and around the world. Based in Oxford, The Alternotives have performed at numerous college balls, charity events, fashion shows and private functions, as well as putting on their own concerts. Further afield, they have performed around the at the White House, Shea Stadium, the Empire State Building, the 58th United Nations General Assembly[1] and in 2005 sung at the 9/11 memorial service for British victims in New York.[2] A recent tour of the East Coast of America saw them return to New York and Boston, putting on concerts with a number of US a cappella giants.
In 2010, the group went up to the Edinburgh Fringe festival for the first time, wowing sell-out crowds and coming away with rave reviews. The Alternotives will be heading back to Edinburgh in 2011 with brand new material.
The Alternotives have produced five albums, including Get Naked with... The Oxford Alternotives in 2009.[3] In 2009, the Group came second in The Voice Festival UK, winning awards for 'Outstanding Arrangement' and 'Outstanding Solo'.[4]
